What a Conference Is Like
October 23, 2025
We started with a quick refresher on our class expectations.
Then we introduced Tustin MUN, our first conference of the year, and asked who could come.
What happens at a conference
We went over what a conference is actually like:
- What a committee is
- What a conference is
- What a position paper is, and what each section needs to have
We also looked at an example position paper and went over some good habits for research.
Activity: random country, random topic
To finish, everyone split into groups of three. Each group got a random country and a random topic, and had to:
- Write two sentences of background on the topic.
- Find one thing the UN has done about the topic, and cite the source.
- Find two things the country has done about the topic.
- Figure out why the topic might be difficult for that country. A really obvious example is Afghanistan and women's rights.
- Propose a solution that makes sense for the country's situation.
